NORTH WESTERN DEANERY

Greater Manchester area
There are many great opportunities to train in Manchester (the original 24-hour party city) and the surrounding area, including Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Tameside, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham. Each of these is a town with its own distinctive character, a wide variety of social and ethnic cultures and some great sporting venues.

Lancashire & Cumbria
Lancashire is home to some of the country's favourite seaside resorts, including Blackpool. Alternatively, for a more rural retreat Lancashire boasts the Forest of Bowland, Ribble Valley and Pendle Hill, whilst Cumbria has all the inspirational areas of the Lake District.

There are many exciting places to work as a GP. There are a wide variety of different communities served by a range of different types of GP practice. We offer a wide variety of GP Specialty Training Programmes. All are complete 3 year training programmes, with some opportunities to train flexibly. All our programmes provide a structured educational programme throughout the three years. There is an excellent trainee network, opportunities to be trained in all aspects of general practice and for relevant assessments with support from the North West England Faculty of the RCGP. All educational supervisors in the deanery have had training for their role in the training programmes.
For young principals settling in the North Western Deanery we have an established, highly regarded, two year University-accredited Professional Educational & Development course, which builds on the foundation of GP Specialty Training. All the programme directors, educators and trainers are happy to speak to doctors interested and the Deanery can provide careers advice.
