East Midlands Deanery is based on the east side of the Middle of the country; we are above East Anglia & below South Yorkshire. Our northern most Programme is approximately 160 mile s from London and our southern most Programme 70 miles from London.

The East Midlands covers an area from Worksop & Retford in the north to Northampton in the south and from the Peak District in the west to the East Coast of Lincolnshire. We have great transport links whether travelling by rail or road, as the M1 is on our doorstep, or by air as East Midlands Airport is on the border of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. More about the area can be found here.

Most of our Programmes offer 20 months in General Practice. We are the first deanery in the UK to offer this in General Practice training. It will offer the opportunity to spend time in your chosen specialty for in posts in ST1 and ST2 as part of the training programme, as well as the year as ST3.

We provide a range of educational opportunities through the variety of programmes available within the 10 Vocational Training Programmes. The programmes range from the large city based Programmes such as in the Leicester, Derby and Nottingham Programmes to the smaller more rural ones in Worksop & Retford and Kettering.

The Deanery recognises the importance of adult education where GP registrars are given the opportunity to develop so as to allow them to enjoy a lifetime's career in General Practice.

We have a long history of innovation and seek to maximise the opportunities of the changes to Specialty training to provide programmes that prepare our future GPs for practice and lifelong learning. Our proactive programme directors are dedicated to providing the best, most innovative training programmes and believe that we have to continually improve out methods and teaching..
