Defence Deanery (The Armed Forces)
The
Defence Postgraduate Medical Deanery (DPMD) forms part of the Joint
Medical Command and is based at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield. The
structure of DPMD is based upon the NHS Deanery model and retains
strong links with both the University of Birmingham and the West
Midlands Deanery.
Before applying for training within DPMD as a GP,
you must be a serving member of the Armed Forces.
The Department of General Practice is led by the Director of
Postgraduate General Practice Education (DPGPE) whose principal
responsibility within DPMD is the management of Vocational Training for
General Practice (GPVT). The DPGPE, who is also the Defence Specialty
Adviser in General Practice to the Surgeon General, is assisted by 3
Deputy Directors each of whom is also the single Service Adviser in
General Practice within their respective Service. |
The remainder of the team is made up of Associate Advisers and Course
Organizers across the single Services, each of whom has specific
responsibilities within GP postgraduate education.
