Deanery Profile...
The West Midlands Deanery sits in the centre of England. It stretches
from the leafy shires of Shropshire and Herefordshire with their
picturesque market towns over to the Peak District, down through Burton
and Lichfield into Worcestershire and across through Ludlow, out beyond
Shrewsbury into the Welsh Borders and up to Oswestry. The centre of the
Deanery sits in Birmingham with its CBSO, Royal Ballet and more canals
than Venice. Walsall has a world-class art gallery and Staffordshire is
famous for its potteries and breweries. It offers excellent facilities for
walkers and theater-goers for gourmets (Raymond Blanc) and for those
looking for the rural idyll.
The West Midlands Division of Postgraduate GP Education has deservedly
gained a reputation for innovation and educational development and we are
committed to supporting GP Registrars to take the MRCGP Examination and
provide the half-day release courses are of exceptional quality. All SHO
posts on our schemes have a very strong GP focus and are approved by the
JCPTGP and Postgraduate Dean. With three University Medical Schools, Keele,
Birmingham and Warwick, there are opportunities to develop through the
academic as well as the Vocational Training Schemes. In addition to the
half-day release course there is provision for minor surgery, child
surveillance, palliative care and family planning.
