Further information

Kettering

We are a long established scheme in north Northamptonshire. We value people as individuals, and seek to promote an ethos of life long learning within committed primary care teams. We have a tradition of innovation with several years experience of extended general practice training. Our registrars like it so much, that many of them join local practices and continue to contribute locally. Kettering General Hospital is known for its friendly atmosphere and we have a course organiser with special responsibility for SHO development. We have a variety of experienced training practices in both town and rural settings. Our academic half day programme is devised and often led by the registrar group. We have regular Away Days, when trainers and registrars share and learn together at a local country conference centre.

The Kettering district is well supplied with good schools, pleasant countryside, sports and leisure facilities. Housing is still relatively cheap, and transport links are good to London, and the Midlands. Three international airports are within one hour’s drive.

Leicester

Variety of opportunity & environment for training ensures Leicester continues to attract doctors with diverse interests & experience. As a large scheme, we can offer flexible training & have the capacity to match training needs if previous experience is accredited. We have a history of innovation in our half-day release provision having developed & evaluated a curriculum rather than a rigid timetable. We use simulation in training as a matter of course & achieve above average success in Summative Assessment.

Leicestershire boasts a thriving city & the surrounding countryside is considered a bonus to being part of the Leicester VTS.

Northampton

Northampton is home to one of the country’s best rugby clubs and a brewery that claims it produces “probably the best lager in the world” and we are also probably one of the friendliest and most supportive schemes in the country.

The best way to find this out for yourself is to speak to one of the doctors on the scheme or one of the course organisers. We would be happy to show you around, and have enough flexibility in the scheme to accommodate a variety of training needs. We try to integrate the hospital jobs with general practice by spending one week in a practice during each of the hospital jobs.

We’re constantly looking to improve and develop the scheme and would welcome you as a part of the team.
