Deanery
profile... Leics, Northants and Rutland
East Midlands Deanery is in the process of being formed as part of NHS
East Midlands. This is currently led by the Interim postgraduate Dean, Dr
David Sowden. The deanery is composed of two former Deaneries LNR
(Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland) and Trent. These Deaneries
have worked very close together for many years. Each will retain local
focus working as two halves of the deanery (Institutes of Postgraduate
Medical and Dental Education). This new organisation offers new
opportunities to combine opportunities and resources and combines strong
teams. This is an exciting time to be coming to train in the East
Midlands.
East Midlands South the former LNR deanery covers the 3 counties in its
title to their geographical boundaries. Even Rutland, England's smallest
county, has Training placements attached to Leicester VTS, one of the
largest schemes in the country. The other schemes are based in Kettering &
Northampton to the south. We are building on the successes of our
innovative schemes to move to new GP Specialty training programmes to meet
the new training requirements and address the new MRCGP. For full details
we advise those considering applying to approach the 3 schemes for further
details.
We have a long history of innovation and seek to maximise the
opportunities of the changes to Specialty training to provide programmes
that prepare our future GPs for practice and lifelong learning. Specialty
Registrar posts and GP training placements are of a high standard across
LNR.
