Deanery Profile...
Severn Deanery School of General Practice was formed in April 2007, and
covers the counties of Somerset, Gloucestershire, Avon (Bristol & Weston)
and Wiltshire.
Severn offers something for everyone - the Cotswolds, the
rolling Wiltshire downs, the beautiful Georgian cities of Bath and
Cheltenham, the "big city" feel of Bristol and the attractive coastline
and hills of Somerset. Our sporting and cultural opportunities are
simply superb, and whilst links to London are fast and convenient, few
quite frankly seem to see the need. What more can you say? It
isnt a coincidence that virtually everyone who has worked in our part of
the West Country wants to stay - and GPSTs overwhelmingly choose to work
within Severn after finishing their training.
The deanery offers very highest standards of education in General
Practice, with superb success rates in the MRCGP. All of our
educational teams are highly motivated and committed to providing the very
best experience for all of our GP specialist trainees. GPSTs have
representation on all of the key groups within the GP school, to ensure
that not only do we continue to deliver high standards but that our
programmes very much reflect the needs of our learners.
All GPST programmes within Severn consist of 18 months of training
based in primary care, matched with a further 18 months of carefully
chosen and quality assured posts in our local secondary care trusts .
All of our team are happy to help with informal enquiries, and to give
impartial career advice - please do contact one of our local offices in
Bristol, Cheltenham, Taunton, Bath or Swindon for a chat.
