We aim for trainees to have two full
years attached to a GP practice (some of that time being part-time
hospital inpatient and outpatient training) and a further year with
hospital-based training.
We provide as much variety as possible. Our jobs include Community
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Women’s Health, Specialities, Airedale
Primary Care Trust, Community Medicine for Elderly, Musculo–skeletal
medicine and overseas links to Calgary, Canada and Queensland,
Australia. Flexible (part-time) training is also an option.
Airedales gives trainees a chance to live and work in an area of
outstanding beauty and to experience both urban and rural general
practice |

Our trainers are committed to providing a
welcoming and supportive environment for General Practice Registrars.
Out-of-hours duties are provided by deputising services or
co-operatives although trainees are encouraged to gain experience of
these services in the presence of their trainers. There are well
equipped Postgraduate Centres in both Huddersfield and Halifax. Weekly
afternoon teaching sessions are held in one of the two hospitals. The
aim of these teaching sessions is to encourage small group work,
registrar participation as well as curriculum-based teaching.
The area is one of outstanding natural beauty and is well known for
its musical, cultural and sporting traditions. |

We aim to be as flexible as possible and
can take GPRs for as long or short a scheme as they need and are
usually able to allocate them to their preferred posts.
In addition to the standard hospital jobs we have enough innovative
/ combined posts to enable all GPRs to take one as part of their
training scheme. They include subjects such as palliative care;
community gynae; GUM and dermatology, ophthalmology and ENT. There is
also one research post.
The half-day release programme is varied and well attended. The
subjects are largely chosen by the GPRs and we also have sessions
tackling problem-based learning. |

Leeds |
Leeds VTS celebrates diversity of
background and experience. It is interesting, fun and tailored to your
needs. It will equip you not only with the skills you need now, but
also the abilities to continue to develop personally and
professionally throughout your career.
Most of our registrars undertake one or two innovative posts. These
posts are practice based, but with attachments to suit your identified
learning needs. Uniquely, some of our registrars are piloting full
innovative training (FIT), where all learning is practice-based and
needs led. This is taking place within the context of a
research-focused VTS. |

We have quite a large scheme which means we are able to offer a
good selection of posts. Hospital posts include Rheumatology,
Medicine for the Elderly, Psychiatry and
Rheumatology/Dermatology post, together with a good selection of inner
city and rural training practices.
We also have several well developed innovative posts including
Community Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Women's Health,
Palliative Care, Dermatology and Psychiatry. In addition, if you
can identify a learning need you want to address via an innovative
post, then we can usually help you to meet it.
The quality of working life is important to us, in particular we
recognise the need for good childcare. Advice and support is
available to access this. |
