Deanery Profile...
Wessex Deanery School of General Practice was formed in April 2007, and
covers the counties of Hampshire & the Isle of Wight, Dorset, and south
Wiltshire. We also have several posts on the island of Jersey.
Wessex Deanery actually has the longest tradition of GP education in
England, with the first Regional Adviser then having recently completed 8
years as our Director of GP Education. However, we don’t rest on our
laurels and strive to offer the very highest standards of education
in General Practice. All of our educational teams are highly motivated and
committed to providing the very best experience for all levels of
trainees; we have an award winning system of ST1 and 2 programme
management through Programme Organisers and have also led the way in
establishing and evaluating innovative GPR/ST3 posts.
Our training programme consists of a balance between good quality posts
within the secondary care NHS Trust setting followed by experience in one
of our many GP training practices.
The area offers everything from the World Heritage Jurassic coastline
to the peaceful tranquillity of the New Forest – as well as the cities of
Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Winchester – recently voted the
best place to live in England. There are international airports in
Southampton and Bournemouth as well as fast train links to London.
All of our team are happy to help with informal enquiries and to give
impartial career advice - please do contact one of our local offices in
Winchester, Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth for any further
information you require.
