Deanery
Profile... Trent
East Midlands Deanery is in the process of being formed as part of NHS
East Midlands. This is currently led by the Interim postgraduate Dean, Dr
David Sowden. The deanery is composed of two former Deaneries LNR
(Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland) and Trent. These Deaneries
have worked very close together for many years. Each will retain local
focus working as two halves of the deanery (Institutes of Postgraduate
Medical and Dental Education). This new organisation offers new
opportunities to combine opportunities and resources and combines strong
teams. This is an exciting time to be coming to train in the East Midlands
East Midlands North, for former Trent deanery provides a wide range of
educational opportunities through the wide range of schemes available.
These schemes range from the large city based schemes such as the
Nottingham and Derby schemes to the smaller rural schemes in Lincolnshire.
The larger city schemes offer flexibility with many of the hospital
attachments being at university teaching hospitals whereas the rural
schemes can provide a more personal educational experience. The deanery
recognises the importance of adult education where GP registrars are given
the opportunity to develop so as to allow them to enjoy a lifetime's
career in General Practice.
