Northern Ireland has some of the most outstanding areas of natural
beauty anywhere in the UK. Recently it has been tipped by Lonely Planet as
one of the ‘must see’ countries to visit in 2007. We offer both a vibrant
city life and beautiful countryside - from the Giants Causeway in North
Antrim to the Mourne Mountains in Co Down, from the Lakes of Fermanagh to
the beautiful scenery of the North West. The landscape is astonishingly
beautiful, the people are warm and genuine and the craic is great.
Northern Ireland is known to have one of the lowest costs of living and
the highest standard of living within the UK.
The Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (Deanery
offices) are based on the outskirts of South Belfast. The Deanery is
relatively small and consequently provides a personal service to all of
the junior doctors on our scheme. We promote a learner-centred approach to
training and provide high quality educational opportunities for all
embarking on training for a career in general practice. We aim to provide
the highest standard of training for all our trainees. The GP Vocational
Training Scheme is one of the most popular GP training programmes in the
UK.
We were one of the first deaneries within the UK to use Competency
Based Selection for Recruitment to General Practice. This year we are
offering 65 GPSt1 places on the 3- year training programme. We have 91
training practices located throughout the whole of Northern Ireland. All
those undertaking training are allocated to one of five day-release
programmes based in postgraduate centres and general practices across the
deanery
