Chesterfield Chesterfield VTS covers the whole of North Derbyshire, having training practices in Chesterfield, other surrounding small towns, rural practices in the Peak District and extending to Buxton in the High Peak.

The popularity of the scheme is due to the friendly, co-operative relationship between General Practice and Chesterfield Royal Hospital, the enthusiasm of both consultant and general practice trainers and its location on the edge of beautiful countryside, close to the major centres of Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby with easy access to the M1.

Mansfield Mansfield is situated in the heart of ancient Sherwood Forest with easy access to the countryside of Nottinghamshire and the Peak District. For those who like a lively lifestyle, the cities of Nottingham and Sheffield are just 14 miles away. The M1 is just 3 miles away for those who wish to get away from time to time.

Newark is more rural but also has some light industry. Both have some pockets of deprivation.

King’s Mill Hospital, part of the Sherwood Hospitals NHS Trust, is a district general hospital with plans to expand and improve patients services over the next few years.

Boston Boston is a delightful Lincolnshire Market Town of 36,000 population situated at the north-west corner of the Wash.

Boston VTS is one of the oldest schemes in the country and offers excellent personal training for General Practice. The course is for three years, starting either in August or February. The 3 years’ training comprises 18 months in general practice and 18 months in hospital specialties. This increased training in general practice has resulted in the Boston Vocational Training Scheme becoming one of the more innovative schemes in the UK. The GP Registrars think highly of the Scheme and many of them have decided to practise locally on completion of their training.
